Posing For Wedding Photos

Of course you want everything to run smoothly on your perfect day, but once the day is over, once the cake has been eaten, the music has stopped and you and your groom have ridden off into happily ever after, the most significant lasting momento of such a great day will be your photos. Create lasting memories you’ll love to share over and over through the years with these tips from Conklyn’s Weddings.

1. Always pose at an angle. Tilt your best features closest to the camera to highlight them. Photos taken from slightly above or at a 45 degree angle are always more flattering, so practice turning a bit before snapping the shot. Hold your bouquet in the hand closest to the camera, or at varying heights to keep the shots from all looking the same.

2. Create depth and texture with a bit of randomness. Instead of the typical row of  perfectly aligned attendants, play with heights and focal points for more intriguing group photos. Have everyone looking in different directions, use stairs or have some sit while others stand, let the bridesmaids each hold their flowers differently. The natural, relaxed effect it will have on the photo will be worth it.

3. Use movement. Pictures of you and your groom, bridesmaids or flower girl walking, hugging, dancing and talking will all help tell the story of your big day. Fling your arms around your groom with your bouquet in one hand while the photographer snaps away. Hold hands with the flower girl and let your bouquet dangle in the other hand. Showing movement will bring a casual feel to a formal day, giving it a new depth.

4. “Smile…” even when you’re not smiling. They say “smile with your eyes,” so even when it’s a more serious pose, lifting your eyes and cheeks as though you’re about to smile will help you appear warm and welcoming in photos where you’re not quite grinning ear to ear.

5. Use props and backgrounds for details. While the girls have their bouquets to hold throughout the photo sessions, the groomsmen may not know what to do with their hands. Shoot pictures of the groom and his men clinking glasses of Scotch in a toast or tossing a football together to create more “real” moments for the camera to capture.

The photos taken at your wedding will be the lasting reminder of the most wonderful day of your life. Talk to the design experts at Conklyn’s Weddings for more great ideas about posing for your wedding photos.
